December goals and festive woes.

DECEMBER, its bloody, December- it doesn’t seem two minutes since we were going through the longest January in history. Simply put i have no idea where this year has gone but so excited to see the back of it.

Colder months are my happy months, seeing the red cups dressing the high streets, mulled wine filling the bellies of many and judgmental family members who we only see at Christmas dinner knocking at the door. Christmas is a time for celebrating. And that’s exactly what these goals represent. Celebration.

1. Spend time with family.

I don’t have a lot of family, in fact I can count on my hand the amount of people who I class as family. So spending time with them at Christmas is a must – even if we end up bickering our way through the day. Remember: Time spent together is time well spent.

2.Get out of the house.

I spend so much time indoors that sometimes the thought of life outside an office feels alien. Getting up and out of the house may just help me christmas cabin fever and allow me to finally relax and enjoy my time off work and blogging.

3. Have christmas off.

Last year I worked day in day out on my blog for practically no avail. This year with the help of organising, I intend on actually having time away from my keyboard.

4. Stop thinking about everyone else and enjoy christmas.

I worry so much about what everyone else thinks. This christmas its time for a change. I want to laugh, drink and eat this festive season. Christmas 2018 is going time for laughter and relaxation.

I may not celebrate Christmas in the conventional sense. I’m much more likely to wresling with a bottle of wine rather than playing manopoly or watching childrens renditions of silent night. Yet, this christmas is one for me and me only- its time to enjoy life and if all else fails, learn a new cocktail or two.

Thank you for reading my little goals for the month of December. Let me know your goals for the festive season in the comments below.

Always love,

Gin, a cocktail lovers best friend.

Believe it or not Summer is just a stone’s throw away. Cold toes, leaving the house with 45 layers and scraping the ice of your windscreen at 8 in the morning, and be replaced by longer days, sunlight (yay, vitamin D) and cocktails.

Gin is having a huge movement at the moment. The idea of gin being specific to diet bunnies and old ladies seem to be the thing of the past and I for one am all for finding the perfect Gin based summer cocktail.

It’s a hard job but someone has to do it.

Sunshine, is something that I miss so dearly right now. I love nothing more than spending an afternoon in the sunshine testing out a few cocktails and laughing with the girls. Sometimes, this is exactly what we need to forget about are woes for just a few hours. After a little bit of a bad week I was determined to find a little something to remind me of summer. Just because the weather is a bit shit it doesn’t mean my love of a gin based boozy cocktail has to be mutually exclusive with Summer, right?

Here are just a few cocktails which I will most definitely be trying out over the next few weeks. Girls gotta get her cocktail game on point for summer, right? Or something similar that the cool hipster kids say.

Cranberry Gin Fizz.

2 ounces of Gin

2 table spoons of lemon juice

Ocean Spray Sparkling Cranberry Juice Drink.

Combine the Gin and Lemon juice in a tall glass.

Fill the glass with ice.

Add the sparkling juice drink and hey presto!

When to drink.

Cranberry Gin Fizz is a simple but effective cocktail, a great choice for a quick drink when your girlie gossip is giving you life!IMG_4343

Strawberry Gin Smash (Pitcher)

2 table spoons of Granulated sugar.

2 limes.

1 pound of fresh strawberries

2 cups of gin

Fresh Sprig of Mint

Combine sugar and lime.

Use the back of the spoon to ‘muddle’ half of the Strawberries. Muddling, is the use of an intrament to mush or smash an ingredient into a paste.

Add ice into the pitcher.

Take the rest of the Strawberries, cut into slices and add to the mix.

Fill the pitcher with soda.

Last but not least, add a sprig of mint.

Tip: Prior to serving stir to ensure sugar from the strawberries, doesn’t sit at the bottom.

When to drink.

With the girls, on a hot day in a garden – of any sorts.

Elderflower Spritz.

Small bottle of prosecco

35 ml of Gin

Elderflower cordial.

Pop the full bottle of prosecco in a glass.

Add in the 35 mil of Gin.

Top glass with elderflower cordial.

(And yes, it is that simple)

When to drink.

Anytime! Although it is amazing on a warm Friday night.

The classic G&T

A classic, loved by so many- yes, that does include me! Refreshing, cold and unique to your taste, Gin and tonic is a classic, which seems to tick all right boxes. It just couldn’t be missed for this list.

35 mil Gin (on this occasion for me it was Bombay Saphire)

What ever accompaniment you prefer- for me its Strawberries and a wedge of lime.

Pop Ice in a glass of your choice and add accompaniment.

Add your preffered gin.

And top up with tonic water.

For years gin was sseen to be something only few would drink. With the changes in diets, distilaries and bold new recipes, gin has slowly become an alcohol lovers best friend. With summer slowly shuffling around the corner, at snails pace, it is no surprise that gin based cocktails are beginning to be at the forefront of every cocktail menu. And I for one am very excited to make it my mission to try them all!

Just think of me as a Gin warrior fighting her way through shit recipes to find the best of the best for you guys. Jokes, I just really like gin.

Here’s to gin, cocktails just wouldn’t be the same without you.

Always love.
