If you haven’t been living under a rock then you will know that I am a little partial to a tipple, and the festive season is no exception. Obviously, I know you don’t need alcohol to have fun, but with family arguments and your auntie delving into your love life- it helps. Throughout Christmas it is important to drink responsibly, seriously- no one wants to fall into the Christmas tree after a few too many mulled wines.
Saying that there are a few bevies just in case you feel the need for a cheeky festive tipple.
You will need:
Prosecco or Champagne
A simple yet, joyful glass of sunshine. Bucks fizz is one of the easiest cocktails you will ever make. Made up of only two ingredients, Prosecco or Champagne and Orange Juice.
Pop a measure of Champagne into a champagne flute and use the orange juice to fill the top of the glass. And that’s it’s! A simple yet bloody beautiful cocktail.
Is it really Christmas without the most festive drink in the world? If I am making it at home I will always follow the Jamie Oliver’s Mulled Wine Recipe. It is a little bit of a complicated recipe, but it is most definitely provides the best out come.
P.S. Jamie also has a great mulled cider recipe too!
You will need:
- 2 clementines
- 1 lemon
- 1 lime
- 200 g caster sugar
- 6 whole cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 fresh bay leaves
- 1 whole nutmeg , for grating
- 1 vanilla pod
- 2 star anise
- 2 bottles Chianti or other Italian red wine
Peel large sections of peel from the clementine’s, lemon and lime.
Put the sugar in a large saucepan over a medium heat, pop in the pieces of peel and squeeze in the clementine juice (this will look a little odd until you add the wine.
Add the cloves, cinnamon stick, bay leaves and about 10 to 12 gratings of nutmeg(I don’t tend to put nut meg in but this everyone has their own preference). No add, half the vanilla pod lengthways and chuck in the pan, then stir in red wine to cover the sugar.
Let this simmer until the sugar has completely dissolved into the red wine and bring to the boil. Keep boiling for about 4 to 5 minutes, or a ‘beautiful’ thick syrup has been created. This step ensures the seasonings and the alcohol doesn’t burn.
When your syrup is ready, turn the heat down to low and add your star anise and the rest of the wine. Gently heat the wine and after around 5 minutes. Once warmed, pour into a glass of your choice and drink to your hearts content.
Gin and Tonic
You will need.
Your preferred Gin (Mine is Hendricks)
A great simple drink for those of us who done want to over indulge (too much) over the Christmas period.Your preferred gin (mine is Hendricks).LemonKeep it simple, your favourite gin, and some tonic (any because they all taste the same). Measure 25 ml of Gin, pour over ice and add slice of lemon. Top up with tonic. And ta da.
